This week we began our figurative language unit. This is a very important part of our ELA learning. We focus on being descriptive. In the words of Jack from Love That Dog “making a picture with words.” Learners were given an assignment on Monday to write a draft, edit, and revise three poems with a heavy focus on being descriptive, creative, and taking time to write. (Click on image above to download PDF if needed)
Your learner should already have written a rough draft of their FREE VERSE poem, they now need to revise and edit it (simile and metaphors should be used). When they believe it is ready they need to type it in their Google Docs district account. [How to log into Google Apps Account.]
Learners also need to write and complete their “The Red Wheelbarrow” and their “The Tiger” poem. Both these poems are “short” but require learners to think and be creative. I would “like” these type in Google Docs, but if your learner prefers they can write their final in their best writing. I expect to see a ROUGH DRAFT w/ REVISIONS when these are turned in.
I have seen some really deep, thoughtful, and powerful descriptive words written when learners take their time and write seriously though these poems.
So to recap or to make a list of what learner need to be working on during Snowmageddon 2014 DAY 2:
I fully “suspect” we will not be meeting as a class again until Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Thank you for your continued support.
